“排华法案”使华人移民男女比例严重失调，唐人街变成了光棍街。图中可以看到，街上行走的都是清一色的“华人男士”。据统计，1870年，妇女只占华人移民总数的7%，受排华法案的影响，1890年，妇女在华人移民中的比例降至3%左右。
