New NIW Successful Stories (11) Dr. Yalkonde Dr. Yalkonde has extensive research ability in the area of neuroimmunology, epidemiology, and biostastics. He earned his medical degree from an Indian Medical College. In 2001, he came to the U.S. to work as a postdoctoral fellow with a prominent researcher in the field of genetic epidemiology of HIV/AIDS and chemokines. Dr. Yalkonde came to Z&A in 2005 seeking assistance in his NIW petition letter. Because his field of research was in neurological studies, it had wide application to diseases such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, which alone affect more than 2 million people. The associated rehabilitation costs can be $150,000 per patient per year. Dr. Yalkonde’s petition was strengthened by letters from the National Science Foundation, and the Department of Veterans Affairs. Dr. Yalkonde’s petition was submitted September 2005 and approved in April 2006. Dr. Fen Dr. Fen is a physician scientist with extensive research experience in the field of cardiovascular disease. Before he arrived in the U.S., he served as a surgeon for about ten years in China, where he carried out valuable research in the field of neck cancer. He later received his Ph.D. in Japan. Since coming to the U.S. he has focused his research on molecular mechanisms of tooth eruption. Dr. Fen retained Z&A in 2005 to file an NIW. While Dr. Fen had very few publications for the relative experience in the biomedical field, his research affected 60 million Americans who live with cardiovascular disease. Further we noted that much of his research was funded by the National Institutes of Health and had a presumption of furthering the public good. Dr. Fen’s petition was submitted February 2005 and approved in January 2006. Dr. Chan Dr. Chan holds a Ph.D. from one of the top medical schools in the country. He is considered an expert in the field of developmental biology and genetics research. Before arriving in America, Dr. Chan had finished up his undergraduate degree in China. Dr. Chan came to Z&A in 2005 to file an NIW. While his credentials were excellent, we assisted him in fully persuading the Immigration Service of his excellence. Because the number of publications were low, we emphasized that those that he had published were in top tier journals such as Nature, Nucleic Acid Research, and Development. Dr. Chan’s petition was submitted in July 2005 and approved in March of 2006. Dr. Wei Dr. Wei holds a Ph.D. from a Chinese university in biology. Her current research at a major U.S. university relates to gastroenterology. Dr. Wei had made significant developments in the treatment of bowel disorder which were published in the American Journal of Physiology. Despite such acclaim, the USCIS initially requested further information on her case. Dr. Wei came to Z&A in 2005 to respond to a request for further evidence on an NIW case. We began by stressing that her published articles were beyond the standard required and that she had been an invited speaker to several outstanding symposiums. Also several of her recommendations flatly described Dr. Wei as a researcher who had extraordinary abilities exceeding other well-qualified and experienced researchers. Due to the diligence of both the client and our attorneys, the case was approved on May 2006, three months after submission. Mr. Cao Mr. Cao received a Masters degree in Polymer Chemistry from a University in China. He is a well experienced and recognized researcher in supramolecular chemistry. In a research project supported by the Department of Energy, Dr. Cao investigated the how to remove toxic mercury or lead from wastewater. Mr. Cao came to Z&A in 2005 to file an NIW. Mr. Cao at the time was working on a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from a U.S. university but had not yet completed the degree. This did not qualify Mr. Cao from the NIW process and our attorneys focused on his completed research as well as his glowing letters of support from a prominent national laboratory. Mr. Cao’s case was submitted in July 2005, and was approved in January 2006. Dr. Su Dr. Su received his Ph.D. from a prominent Taiwanese university. Since receiving his Ph.D. degree, Dr. Su has produced important scientific contributions to vision science and ophthalmologic research. He used his skills in molecular cell biology to push our understandings of cataracts. Dr. Su came to Z&A in 2005 to file an NIW. Because cataracts is the leading cause of blindness around the world, and surgery is the only treatment for cataracts, we stressed that it was important to come up with pharmacological alternatives for the disease. Dr. Su through his research attempted to find viable pharmacological alternatives and determine the causes. Dr. Su’s case was submitted on March 2005 and approved in February 2006. Dr. Chan Dr. Chan holds a M.D. as well as Ph.D. in biology from a prestigious medical school in Shanghai. During his post-doctoral program his research areas related to pancreatitis. Since coming to the United States he has become a member of the top University’s Vascular Surgery Research Laboratory where he researched cardiovascular disease and hypertension. Dr. Chan retained our firm in 2005 to file a NIW. On Dr. Chan’s behalf we argued that his current work was being funded by the NIH, and that cardiovascular disease is the number one medical cause of death affecting 13 million people. Dr. Chan’s case was submitted in January 2005 and approved in November 2005 Dr. Hong Dr. Hong holds a Ph.D. from a Chinese university in Civil Engineering. Her current research at a major U.S. university relates to wind engineering research projects. Dr. Hong had made significant developments in the architectural design of bridges and other structures to maximize safety. Dr. Hong came to Z&A in 2005 to respond to a request for further evidence on an NIW case. We began by stressing that her published articles were beyond the standard required and that she had been an invited speaker to several outstanding symposiums. Also several of her recommendations flatly described Dr. Hong as a researcher who had extraordinary abilities exceeding other well-qualified and experienced researchers. Due to the diligence of both the client and our attorneys, Dr. Hong’s case was approved on April 2006, two months after submission. Dr. Yong Dr. Yong holds a Ph.D. from a Chinese university in biology. His current research at a major U.S. university relates to dental biofilm development. Dr. Yong had made significant developments to create adhesions which will elucidate the pathogenisis of bacteria. It will be due to Dr. Yong’s research that new antibiotics targeting bacteria will be developed. Dr. Yong came to Z&A in 2005 to respond to a request for further evidence on an NIW case. We began by stressing that he had made a clear impact upon his field, and that additional independent evaluators considered him to be an expert in the field. Due to the diligence of both the client and our attorneys, Dr. Yong’s case was filed on August 2006 and approved three months later. Dr. Dang Dr. Dang holds a M.D. as well as Ph.D. in geography from a west coast U.S. school. During his post-doctoral program his research areas related to digital elevation model errors. Development of his research also analyzed how arid areas impacted social, economic, and environmental development Dr. Dang retained our firm in 2005 to file a EB-1(b) extraordinary researcher visa. On Dr. Dang’ behalf we argued that he had made original contributions to his field, that he had authored scholarly books and articles, that he judged the work of others in prestigious competitions, and that he had won several awards. Dr. Dang’s case was submitted in March 2006 and approved in May 2006. (06/22/2006) For more immigration news, please click here |
