PERM Case Processing Status After one-year primary practice, the new PERM labor certification system has entered into regular operation. During the past year, our firm filed many PERM petitions and all the cases were approved by DOL (Department of Labor). Meanwhile, we did extensive research on the several implementing memos and explanations released by DOL and actively communicated with the other attorneys in AILA (American Immigration Lawyers Association). In March, 2006, AILA established a liaison channel with DOL on PERM cases. The liaison has provided AILA an opportunity to communicate with DOL on PERM directly, asking questions and putting forward advice. Therefore, it has been advantageous to the AILA members dealing with PERM cases. Recently, as required by AILA, DOL released a series of PERM data, showing that from March 28, 2005 to March 17, 2006, DOL received 80, 272 PERM petitions, 36, 687 of which were certified, 1, 950 were withdrawn, 23, 205 were denied and 24, 960 were required an audit. Our firm is an AILA member and closely works with AILA. Moreover, our firm has experts specifying and experienced in PERM cases. The establishment of the liaison channel will help us work more closely with DOL on PERM cases. We believe that since PREM system of DOL has been gradually improved, and our attorneys have had plenty of successful practice and direct communication with DOL, we have seized the essentials of the operation of PERM cases and known well about the deficiency of the online application system and forms. Therefore, if it is said that in the last year when PERM was in primary practice phase, we suggested our clients prudently decide whether to file PERM petitions or not. However, in 2006, we should confidently tell everyone that when meeting the qualification, he/she should utilize the advantages of PERM system to file a PERM petition as soon as possible.
