Over the past 2 fiscal years, the H-1B lottery has been conducted through an electronic registration selection process. Those who seek an H-1B visa will first register through the online system. USCIS announced that on March 30, 2021, there are been enough electronic registrations during the initial registration period to meet the cap for both regular and master’s cap. Furthermore, those who have been selected through the lottery process have been notified.

If you have been selected, your H-1B registration online account should show a “Selected” status. Once selected, you will be eligible to file an H-1B petition on April 1. Only those who have been selected will be eligible for an H-1B visa.

For those who have not been selected, if your status shows “Submitted”, you may be selected through a second lottery selection if the amount of H-1B visas initially distributed does not meet the cap. This can happen if those who were selected did not file or whose petitions were not approved. If your status shows “Denied”, then you are no longer eligible to be selected in future H-1B selections this fiscal year. This is likely due to multiple registrations for the same beneficiary by the same registrant.
