With the passage of the Continuing Resolution that will fund the government to December 11, 2015, the EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program has also been extended. With a sweeping 277-151 vote in the House and 78-20 vote in the Senate, Congress has pushed to fund the government until December. In this bill, the Eb-5 program which was set to expire on September 30, 2015, has also been extended. This temporary extension will provide more time for legislators and the EB-5 community to continue to address and finalize EB-5 reform. Further legislation is needed to continue the EB-5 program long term as the future is still unclear.

EB-5 program has recently come under criticism by the Government Accountability Office under the report “Immigrant Investor Program: Additional Actions Needed to Better Asses Fraud Risks and Report Economic Benefits”. Regardless of the criticism, it is undeniable the benefits the program as yielded and the great opportunities it provides both to immigrants and to the U.S economy. The EB-5 community is optimistic that it will improve upon the current program with legislators and create a better EB-5 program that will serve its purpose to benefit the U.S economy while providing opportunities to potential immigrants.
