The Department of Labor Office of Foreign Labor Certification recently released new statistics regarding the Permanent Labor Certification Program for the fiscal year of 2014 (as of August 31, 2014).

The Department of Labor has received a total of 67,691 applications for the Permanent Labor Certification Program in 2014 FY. 57,489 were certified, 4,162 were denied and 3,647 were withdrawn. Of the PERM applications, 61% is under the “Analyst Review” stage,  29% under “Audit Review” stage, 9% under “Appeal” stage and 1% in the “Sponsorship/BE” stage.

The DOL have also released the top occupations, work site states, industries, visa classifications, countries of citizenship, and minimum education requirements of certified PERM applications in 2014 FY. Of the certified PERM applications, the top 5 occupations include Computer and Mathematics (56%), Architecture and Engineering (12%), Management (8%), Business and Financial Operations (7%), and Education, Training, and Library (5%). The top 5 work sites include California (24%), Texas (10%), New York (8%), New Jersey (7%), and Washington (7%). The top 5 Industries (NAICS Code by Industry) of certified PERM applications are Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (44%), Manufacturing (14%), Information (11%), Educational Services (7%), and Finance and Insurance (6%). In addition, the top 5 visa classifications are H-1B (83%), L-1 (5%), Blank (3%), F-1 (3%), and TN (1%). The top 5 countries of citizenship of those whose PERM applications have been certified are India (56%), China (7%), Canada (5%), South Korea (4%) and Philippines (2%). Finally, the top 4 minimum education requirements of PERM applications in 2014 are Advanced degree (55%), Bachelor’s (37%), Other (5%), and Less than Bachelor’s (3%).
