Without much fanfare or explanation, the US Department of State (DOS) has introduced an online visa status checking service through the Consular Electronic Application Center (CEAC) on the DOS website. Applicants for both immigrant and nonimmigrant visas can use the new service to determine where their applications are in the visa granting process. Immigrant visa applicants will need their Immigrant Visa Case Number to check their status, and nonimmigrant visa applicants will login based on the location of the consulate office and their application ID or case number.
